Undergraduate Program
The Mathematics Department offers two undergraduate degrees: the BA in Mathematics and the BS in Mathematics. The BA has fewer mathematics course requirements and more general education requirements. The BS requires more mathematics courses, an applied mathematics concentration, and fewer general education courses.
Students in other majors can also earn a minor in math. All students are eligible to earn a certificate for actuarial science.

Graduate School/Liberal Arts
Students wishing to attend graduate school in mathematics or to pursue a career that makes substantial use of math (as an actuary, for example) should get a BS in mathematics. Many students majoring in math are interested in a liberal arts degree; if that is your goal, you may consider the BA in mathematics.
Teaching Mathematics
Students who wish to teach mathematics at the high school level should pursue a math major (either BA or BS) and participate in the STEAMTeach KU program. Students who wish to teach mathematics at the middle school level should get a Bachelor's degree (BSE) from the School of Education.
