LAWRENCE-Sungmin Won, mathematics graduate student, received the 2025-2026 Carlin Graduate Teaching Award from KU Graduate & Postdoctoral Affairs to recognize excellence in teaching by graduate students.

GTA Awards are given to graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding professional interaction with students and faculty while working as a GTA.

Sungmin came to KU in Fall 2019. She has received her M.A. degree in mathematics and is working on her Ph.D.  She has taught mainly calculus courses. She received the department’s 2025 Florence Black Award for Excellence in Teaching. She has served as an officer of the department’s Graduate Student Organization and a volunteer for KU’s Mathematics and Statistics Math Awareness Month math competition. Her research was recognized with a 2025 Summer Research Scholarship from the KU Office of Graduate Studies.
