Ryan Frier Receives Carlin GTA Award
LAWRENCE-Ryan Frier, mathematics graduate student, received a 2021-2022 Diana Carlin Graduate Teaching Assistant award from KU Graduate Studies to recognize excellence in teaching by graduate students.
GTA Awards are given to graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding professional interaction with students and faculty while working as a GTA.
Ryan entered the KU mathematics graduate program in 2017. He has taught precalculus and calculus courses and is currently the coordinator of Math 104 Precalculus. He served as president of the department’s Graduate Student Organization in 2020-2021. He was a finalist for the department’s 2020-21 Florence Black Award for Teaching Excellence.
Carlin received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education from KU. She became a faculty member in Communication Studies at KU in 1987 and served in many leadership roles until 2011. She significantly contributed to the U.S. electoral system through her research on political debates and has led research efforts on the effectiveness of debates on voter education. KU recognized her accomplishments with the Mortor Board Outstanding Educator Award, Steeples Award for Service to Kansas, KU Woman of Distinction, and was selected to KU Women’s Hall of Fame.
