Emily Witt Receives J. Michael Young Academic Advisor Award

Emily Witt, assistant professor of mathematics, was awarded the 2019 J. Michael Young Academic Advisor Award that recognizes an outstanding faculty or academic staff Portrait of Emily Wittmember in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences for exemplary advising of undergraduate students.  The recipients are nominated by students who feel their advisor goes out of his/her way to guide them through the process of setting educational and career goals, makes the effort to be available, and provides students with beneficial information.

Emily came to KU in 2015 after positions at the University of Utah, Mathematical Science Research Institute, and University of Minnesota.  She received her Ph.D. in 2011 from the University of Michigan.  Her research interests are in commutative algebra and its connections with algebraic geometry and representation theory.  At KU, she has also received a Research Excellence Award and the Don and Pat Morrison Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching.
