Title: Leveraging Mathematical Connections to Empower Student Thinking

Abstract: We will explore ideas related to rate of change and optimization with a focus on leveraging foundational mathematics to promote student sense making. The role of representations and reasoning will be central to empowering students to engage in conceptual mathematical thinking rather than more narrow procedural approaches.
