A study of some structures, theorems, and techniques in algebra whose use has become common in many branches of mathematics.
Math 830 is the first graduate level course in abstract algebra. It will cover basic materials on groups, rings, fields and modules. The goal is to get to the fundamental theorem of Galois theory at the end. Concrete examples and problem solving skills will be emphasized, with a view towards helping students pass the qualifying exams in algebra.
